Registered Interim Manager Grey Gables

Shirley Smyth

Shirley began her career in 2007 as a night support worker supporting adults with Learning Disabilities and/or Autism. Loving both the role and the opportunity to learn, she went on to complete the necessary NVQs before training to become a nurse. After three years at the University of Cumbria, Shirley qualified as a Registered Nurse in Learning Disabilities (RNLD) in 2014.

Nine months later, Shirley returned to university to complete the MSLAP Level 7 qualification, enabling her to assist with the training and mentoring of student nurses.

Over the years, Shirley has gained experience in a variety of settings, including both hospital and community environments, enjoying each role and the unique challenges they brought. She is passionate about helping people to reach their full potential - whether that’s the individuals she supports or the colleagues she works alongside - and describes herself as very much a “people person.”

Outside of work Shirley enjoys spending time with family and friends and taking walks along the beach with her dogs.
